Year, Model, Make, and Color Information
At the top of the Monroney, you will find the model year, make, model, and trim, as well as the interior and exterior colors of the vehicle.
Standard Options, Warranty, Base Price, and Total Price
This section contains the vehicle’s engine specs and its drivetrain configuration: front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD), four-wheel drive (4WD), or all-wheel drive (AWD) (AWD).
In addition, it details the vehicle’s basic safety features, audio system, temperature control, seats, interior lighting, headlights, power accessories, wheel and tire types and power accessories. The pricing of factory-installed options and packages are listed.
After the basic features, extras, and packages list, you’ll discover the car’s base price, its total MSRP with additional options and packages, and the destination fee.
Les automobiles with an EPA combined fuel efficiency rating of less than 22.5 mpg will be taxed as “gas guzzlers.” The tax does not, however, apply to SUVs, vans, or pickup trucks.
The warranty coverage for the vehicle is provided directly under the total price.
Fuel Economy
Every Monroney sticker has a massive box with information regarding the vehicle’s EPA-rated fuel efficiency (EPA). It provides the vehicle’s combined city and highway MPG (mpg). In addition, the number of gallons of gasoline required to go 100 miles and an estimate of how much an owner will spend on fuel over the first five years of ownership is shown.
This EPA information is shown on electric automobiles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). In addition, the sticker displays the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power used to go 100 miles (kWh/100 mi) by the vehicle. Also noted is the vehicle’s EPA-estimated electric range. Since PHEVs also utilize gasoline, the sticker includes the average mpg figure. The sticker also consists of the total charging time for the vehicle on a 240-volt (Level 2) charger.
The Monroney sticker also offers information about the environmental effect of each vehicle. A Greenhouse Gas Rating and a Smog Rating are shown. Both cars are assessed on a 10-point scale, with higher scores signifying fewer pollutants.
The sticker has a QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone. This link will lead you to a website where you can input information about your commute and driving patterns to estimate your fuel expenditures more accurately.
NHTSA Security Rankings
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash-test ratings are shown in a separate box on the window sticker. The agency utilizes a five-star rating system, with the highest rating being five stars. Not every automobile is subject to NHTSA crash testing (the agency tends to skip low-volume vehicles).
The sticker displays the vehicle’s total crash test score and its scores in three categories: front collision, side crash, and rollover. The front crash test star ratings are provided individually for the driver and passenger. Both front- and rear-seat passengers’ ratings for side-impact crash testing are shown.
It is crucial to remember that front crash test scores from the NHTSA cannot be compared across vehicle classes. More significantly, heavier automobiles provide more protection for their passengers than smaller, lighter ones. Consequently, a tiny vehicle with a front crash test rating of five stars may not offer as much protection as a massive SUV with the same rating.
Parts Content
The window sticker contains information regarding the origin of the vehicle’s parts and its final assembly location.
VIN & Shipping Info
The Monroney sticker contains the vehicle identifying number (VIN), the vehicle’s origin, the port of entry, the buyer (often a dealer), and the vehicle’s weight. You may also visit our VIN Decoding page.
Addendum or Add-on Sticker
Some automobiles have a second sticker placed next to the Monroney sticker. The dealer provides these to indicate the price of any dealer-installed items, pricing modifications, or extra costs. Examine the addendum sticker with attention. Remember that everything on the sticker is up for negotiation.
KEEP YOUR STICKER ON THE WINDOW
After purchasing a new vehicle, save the window sticker for future reference. It might be helpful when selling the car. Some individuals are willing to pay a premium for a vehicle with the original window sticker.
There are also Monroney stickers for used cars
As stated before, owners should save their original window sticker since there are a variety of advantages for possible buyers:
- Consumers have greater faith in a second-hand vehicle with its original window sticker.
- The stickers may assist shoppers in determining which amenities come with the model they’re considering and which do not.
- They assist consumers in better grasping the pricing of the vehicle they are contemplating since the facts are specified.
